I want to live a simpler life. One where I have less possessions. I want to live in an ultimately economical dwelling. My wants are always being smothered by society.
Simpler lives are often looked upon as disgusting and sad. People see the homeless and feel sorry for them or hate for them. Some call them the unfortunate. They aren't unfortunate! Do you call the rich fortunate? Fortune has to do with unexpected outcomes. Did the rich or the poor become that way by unexpected outcomes? No. It was by choice. The homeless choose to be homeless. Don't believe me? Next time you see one of these people, offer them a job. Tell them to get the job they must clean up and get a new set of clothes. They will refuse. They may even tell you, "Just give me some change or go away. I just want some cash."
Just as the homeless choose that life, the wealthy choose their lives. Why do you think they keep getting richer? They choose to do things that will get them money. It's all out of choice.
But our government needs us to buy and buy. Economy requires this. After WWII, businesses decided to begin making things less sturdy so that they would wear out quicker. So that you would buy more. This has continued for the last 60+ years. If you buy a computer, and it gets old after about a year and begins running slower, you can't just buy the little chip inside on the mother board for the new year and replace the old one. Each of those chips change shape yearly. Everything works this way.
All of these possessions are not what they seem. Commercials alone tell us to buy more to be happy. No item you can buy will ever please you forever. That is the greatest desire of every company. They only want to please you temporarily. Maybe enough that when you get tired of the thing you bought, you will buy their newer model.
More possessions will make you more and more worried that one day someone will break into your house and steal what is "yours."
So what is the point of buying it in the first place?
So this is how I want to live. It's really tough though. I want things at the store as well. It's difficult not to want to buy it if the money needed is in my hands.
Even getting a small, cheap apartment isn't reasonable unless one can remove all the wants they have.
